Bloodstain Pattern Analysis or Blood Spatter Pattern Analysis is the scientific investigation of individual bloodstains and associated patterns resulting from blood in flight and its impact on various surfaces. Blood splatter pattern analysis is a commonly used technique in the reconstruction of violent crime scenes, where the appearance of the blood at the scene is an important factor in the investigation. Blood is a liquid, and as such follows the same basic physical laws as many other liquids. The process of bloodstain pattern investigation involves utilizing scientific method. This must include knowledge of blood components and the physics of liquids in flight.
